The Calm, Before a Storm

Post  Lkbrox on Fri May 30, 2008 8:37 pm

Andiarmo, a shadow to the midnight sky, stood still watching everything around him. He sighed, it would not last long. Everything was silent, their was no fighting here yet, not even the birds were flying. It was the calm before a storm, but Andiarmo was not sure what kind of storm. Fights occured a lot here, and he was tempted to neigh out, but he did not know what would happen if he did. The night breeze fluttered through his mane, as a shiver ran down his spine. Once more he looked around, still no one, but how long could this peace last??

as if reading his thoughts a high pitched neigh cut the calm. like a sliver of moonlight a small white stallion trotted up the hill. Lightning was not looking for a fight as much as to do some rough play on this fine night. He knew that not far off and watching were other band stallions, mares and fillys. He was just looking to strut his stuff and gain a bit of skill. Perhaps this dark stallion standing so proudly with the full moon at his back was this sort of friend. If not, Lightning knew he could always run for it and regain his wounded pride later.
Her arched his neck, and came nose to nose with the dark Andiarmo. He blew warm puffs of air out, and with a few short gruff whickers he playfully but firmly bit Andiarmo on his shoulder. "Let the games start" he thought.

Strider came galloping in at full speed. He loved to watch fights. He also loved to get involved, but this was not his to bare. He her screaming in the distance and knew he was near. His chestnut coat flickered in the moonlight. He shone as much as daylight. He slowed to a trot for he saw the 2 stallions tearing at each other. "They must have just started, they're barely breaking a sweat..." Strider began to graze knowing that the exciting bit had not come yet.

Lightning spots the shining red stallion. He nips again at Andiarmro, then bounds away, his ears pinned, his heart beating wildly as his blood flows hot.
He bolts down the slope, the dark stallion Andiarmro following, both of them round on the grazing Chestnut. The moon is high, the night is alive and here where stallions have faught and died these three are out to play!

Storm stood behind the crowd. Yes, he loved fights. he loved competiton. he loved most things that horses do, yet he couldnt get into it. He walked to the front so he could get a clear and perfect view of the big fray. Storm pawed the ground, trying to get the fighting and danger spirit intoo his blood once again. Since the day before yesterday, after that dark dark night, he had been changed and he would be changed forever storm thought

Lightning, his sides hot and sweaty, bucked and reared, his spirits were high and the night air fresh and cool! He knew all too well that while they were friends now anything could change. With white puffs of air from his nose he rejoined in the games.

Strider reared up and watched with excitement. The only thing he was worried about was that this could be fight to the death. He finally recognized one of the horses, Strider had met with him briefly in one of the other herds. Lovely fellow. Strider did not continue to rear, but worried that this horse may lose...

Lightning tore him self away from the fightning/playing, he galloped a short aways a way. There he stood, resting one back leg, his sides were dripping wet and he was out of breath. Had the playing gone too far? He looked at his side, there was a small flesh wound and red blood from it mixed with his sweat. Lightning looked back, yes he knew he was done. He was hot and tired and a bit sore. but he had faught good and learned some new skills too.
He moved off from the other stallions, down the hill into the shadows where he took a cool drink of water. He watched as the other stallions battled on.

Strider instantly galloped down after Lightning. "Lightning, you probably do not remember me, but I certainly remember you! You were in one of the other... Never mind, back to the point. I can see that both of you are struggling, and that the end is getting incredibly near. I have quite a few points that may come in handy for you." Strider took him deeper into the forest, so that neither of them could be seen. "Alright, your job is to tire him, not thrash and thrash and tire yourself. Let him do all the thrashing. I've seen your dodging skills and I feel confident that you will be able to fulfill this." Strider held his head high a started walking around as he kept on advising the steps. "As soon as he goes for you, all you have to do is dodge and run. Stop, then let him to it again etc. As soon as he is just about ready to drop, you may -then- go for him." Strider pushed him towards where he had just come from. "See how we go."
